Meeting Minutes - October 9, 2009
- Meeting called to order at 7:15 p.m. by Janet Donnelly, President.
- Attendance: 15
Events:
- Harvest Supper deadline is Wednesday, October 14, 2009. Will be providing pies from the Somerville High School culinary department. The performer and caterer are booked and a reminder event is BYOB. Decorations are being done by Leah McLaughlin (past co-president and parent) and assembly of decorations will occur at conclusion of meeting. If anyone would want to be on the decorating committee there is much to be done. Registrations for SJPC were due October 1st in order to be printed in the book but new members are always welcome. This year’s book will be dedicated to the SJMC, along with a dedication the night of the Harvest Supper.
Note: If you have pictures from this event, especially of the SJMC dedication wall, the entertainment, and the group photo... please send them to me at amshanahan@gmail.com -- I will post them here. Thanks!
- Halloween party hours were reviewed: 12-1 and 1-3. The only reason there is an earlier session is for the little ones that might not like the dark setting or loud music. This is done per people’s comments and requests from past years. This year will be Laura Golini’s last year organizing the Halloween party so we will need a successor to take this over.
Again, if you have pictures from this event, please send them to me at amshanahan@gmail.com.
- Pub Night will be February 20th. This may be a night for playing Texas Hold’Em, left, right, center, etc. but will also be the night we hold the $10,000.00 raffle. This is not a fundraiser and is not mandatory. The drawing will occur only if the required amounts of tickets are sold. We will need to register with the Lottery to hold this event. There will be five opportunities to raffle off Five tickets to this Raffle. The other tickets will all be sold at later dates.
- Holly Fair is the weekend before Thanksgiving and will run Friday–Sunday (with set-up and breakdown Thursday and Sunday, respectively). As in years past, Friday during the day is a time for the kids to do their shopping and enjoy the festivities. We will have a theme and the Holly Fair book in a couple of weeks when they come home in your child’s backpack. Gift cards and liquor donations are always needed for the raffles. Please do not send liquor into school with your child. Chair people will contact those that signed up at coffee hour to meet. Calendars will be available for sale, but are not required. John Camara has arranged for these to be printed for the Club.
- Auction early preparations are underway and some ideas of items were discussed. There may be a Hot air balloon ride which the auction committee will decide on how to raffle or auction off. There may also be availability for a NASCAR experience, dinner with celebrities, or travel tickets.
Business:
- Virtus program is required for anyone planning to participate in the school and interact with the children. The program is available through several parishes.
- Monthly meetings will take care of business but possibly have a second “fun” component to them. One idea was having a Gold party in which people can bring in their unwanted gold and receive cash. Wine tasting, exercise class and other thoughts were brought up.
- By-law change requested at last meeting for voting by proxy will be tabled for now. Cheryl requested this change and needs more time to research how the proxy can be done , monitored, etc.
- Oval Stickers [car magnets] are a great way to celebrate and advertise our school. Jessica has looked at pricing, design and colors. These can be sold at Holly Fair or be a nice gift for new families.
- New website is actually considered a blog. Andrea Shanahan, webmaster, gave a thorough presentation on how to navigate the site. This is her last year as a parent in the school and she is looking for someone that is computer savvy to monitor and update the blog for SJPC. The blog offers the option to post comments, which are reviewed by the President and webmaster before posting. It may be a good communicating and informative tool. Please visit the new site at http://www.stjoespc.com.
Adjournment:
- Meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm (and Harvest Supper decoration assembly began)
- Minutes submitted by: Cristina Murphy, Recording Secretary [Great job, Christina - thanks!]
- Next meeting scheduled for Friday, November 13, 2009
Monday, October 19, 2009
Note from Janet
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to thank everyone for attending the Harvest Supper and I hope you enjoyed yourselves. We had a little over 100 people in attendance, food was plentiful and absolutely delicious. "Strictly Sinatra" was entertaining and the company was great! It was heartwarming to see both old familiar faces and some new faces attend. It is a tribute to our school and we all should be proud.
Congratulations to Linda Iacabone who won the very first ticket to SJS 10K drawing, to be held in Feb. 2010. We will be raffling off 2 more tickets at the Holly Fair.
I really need to say "Thank You Very Much" to the board members who worked so very hard to pull this event together. Without all of your hard work and support we could not continue to run these events. Also, thanks to Katie's dad for coming and taking pictures. As soon as we get them we will post them on the SJPC website.
I also wanted to announce that we have rolled out the new St. Joseph Parents Club blog... [this blog - Watch the video in the previous entry for more info about these things called "blogs"!] The Mothers' club website at stjosephmothersclub.com will no longer be updated and a link has been added to re-direct you here.
The SJPC handbook just needs to be proofed and printed, so that should be distributed soon. Thanks to Sue Paturelli for all her hard work on putting the book together.
Hope to see you all at the Halloween parties, and then our ever-so-popular Holly Fair, in November -- our first major fundraiser of the year. Thanks to everyone for your support and we are well on our way to having a wonderful school year! If you have any questions, ideas or concerns please feel free to contact me.
